News from the field – Cameroon

As part of our final 2022 funding round, we sponsored the planting of 100 trees with our network member, Ecological Balance from Cameroon, who's been doing great work with forest restoration and community engagement.

The funds were applied in the ongoing restoration of a water catchment area that is also used by local population, reinforcing the new vegetation with 120 Raphia palm trees (Raphia farinifera). This is a local species associated with water courses, and one of the most economically useful plants in Africa, providing building materials, food and medicine.

This approach addresses human use and pressure, while creating a buffer for the natural recovery of the remaining area. A successful restoration often relies on achieving such a balance, and we are happy to see it in practice here!

Our congratulations to Ecological Balance - keep up the good work!
