Description

FORESTEVER is a French non-profit association which, since 2009, develops agroforestry and reforestation projects with indigenous communities in the Amazon regions of Peru and Colombia.

FORESTEVER implements agroforestry models together with local communities, as a way to connect the protection of biodiversity with improved living standards for the people. Local villages are trained on how to better use native timber and fruit trees, particularly those in risk of disappearing, and are assisted with reforestation actions and resource management know-how. This approach helps to restore and re-value local ecosystems with a focus on biodiversity, while improving the diet and income sources of local inhabitants.

The social focus of this project is extended by their effort to preserve the traditional use of certain tree species for handicraft and woodwork. Tree nurseries and managed plantation areas are complemented with workshops and educational actions with children and adults alike, so that the know-how and usage of these resources is kept in a long-term and integrated way.
