Planting action in Rheineck (SG) – results

Restoration, Switzerland

Closing our Spring planting season, we joined the students at the Rheineck Kindergarden and Primary School and helped them to expand their new natural hedge.

As part of their Project Week on Biodiversity, 150 young students at the Rheineck Kindergarten and Primary School (St Gallen) conducted several activities to make their school and surroundings more nature-friendly. They created several new biotopes, including a new mixed hedge with native species, to complement 3 majestic trees next to one of the school buildings.
We supported this great initiative of theirs with a donation of 25 new plants – mostly a mix of endemic bushes and smaller trees – to further expand their hedge, and by participating in the planting with a group of children and their teachers. Several class groups took turns with the planting and, despite the light rain that day, the mood was enthusiastic. We really appreciated the dedication and interest of the students and the accompanying teachers 🤩. A big thank you to all the participants! 🙏
We hope that the school and local wildlife can enjoy the new areas in the coming years! The “Tiefbauamt” (Civil Engineering Department) of the town of Rheineck will remain, as owner of the space, responsible for the maintenance of the new plants.
